Today is Halloween. Because Halloween is not a holiday, but more of a dark day meant originally for the cult, our church's girls group hosted a fall party. The older girls mentor a group of 6th-8th grade girls as a way to usher them into their teenage years. The fall party consisted of games, face paining, yummy food and candy. Right now as I'm sitting here typing, I'm trying to peel off the excess of the paint on my face. Pumpkins are a necessity for any fall party so I took a few little kids to the pumpkin patch yesterday. The teacher gutted, cleaned, and carved the pumpkin in front of the attendees of the party and at the end she put a candle inside of it. The slimy guts of the pumpkins represented the sin God takes away from us when we become a Christian and the seeds represented something bad that God turns around for good. (Seeds are not good raw but when you put sugar and cinnamon on them and pop them in the oven they're delish!) The candle is to represent the light of Christ. The teacher carved a cross into the front of the pumpkin. Hopefully the girls picked up on the message, even though none of us older girls will feel as if a night has been wasted. Just like the saying "The true meaning of Christmas" people need to learn the "True meaning of Halloween!" ;)

Beauty

"The lights of her eyes shone through even the blackest parts of the night O her beauty... her beauty"

Beauty, beauty. The idea of beauty changes every year. Is straight hair beauty, is lots of makeup beauty, is flaunting the most skin you can beauty? Many many years ago beauty would be in how pale your skin was and how tight you could make your waist in a corset. Now its evolved into how skinny a girl can get and how much skin she can show. Makeup is worn by little, little girls to make them feel pretty and to attract the little boys who she thinks is mature enough to call him "boyfriend". The skirt/short lengths creep up and up each year. And the necklines plunge ever so much deeper and deeper. And the makeup is applied thicker and thicker. And the girls get skinnier and skinnier. And the ages get younger and younger.

"I couldn't read her"

That's what my coach said as he was calling my name to receive my 'Most Improved' award. Am I really that hard to read? I am a tennis player and have been playing for about three years now. I play varsity sometimes and sometimes I don't. But am I really that hard to read when I'm playing? Probably. When I step on a tennis court that match will have me either at the heights of my emotions or the depths. One time I had to play with someone lower then my skill level because another girl (who was about the same level as my girl) refused to play with her. That match had the depths. But what makes a person hard to read? A blank expression? I definitely would not have a blank look on my face during a tennis match. I guess you just got to keep your fans guessing because you're not playing for them anyways!;)

Freedom

"Let freedom ring"

The price of freedom was paid awhile ago when someone believed in breaking off from Britain and becoming what would one day become the great nation of America. Our faithful soldiers paid this price. But now, there are some people who will never get to enjoy freedom, or anything for that matter. What am I talking about? Approximately 800,000 babies are aborted each year. And this is legal. It's called "Woman's rights" but what about all of these babies' right to freedom? And to be free?  They will never have a birthday, or learn to ride a bike, or get married because of someone two people who want to "wipe out a mistake". The baby shouldn't be punished for this. You and I live a life of ease, even if there are hardships at least we had a chance to make it unlike all of those little infants whose lives have been snuffed out.
Some ways to end criminals lives have been outlawed such as the guillotine, hanging, and stoning because they are inhumane. How can that be inhumane when burning, plucking, cutting, and poisoning a baby straight out of the womb is "humane"? I disagree with abortion. It's inhumane. And even our own president, who in the beginning of his race said that he would make sure babies wouldn't be punished for the mistakes of their parents but who now has passed a bill that our tax payer's money will go toward paying for abortions in other countries. Everyone has a right to freedom even those who cannot fight for it themselves..
"Let freedom ring" Is it ringing for everyone?

Justice and Fairness

"Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are a good person  is a little like expecting a bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian"

Justice and fairness.
Justice- the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness
fair- free from bias, dishonesty, or injustice

I was watching Judge Judy the other day, and the body language of these people who lose the case is crazy. "I feel like she didn't listen to all of my side of the story" yada yada yada. When deciding you can't sort your problem out and you take it to court, you take the chance of losing. A judge is a human, although they try not to be biased, they usually are. Listening to your side of the story doesn't matter, they will choose the verdict. This happens a lot in life too, if you're a good person you don't get a get out of jail free card to have your life be peachy. Is it fair? No. But that's just how this life works!

Sounds and Silence

"Speak now or forever hold your peace"

Silence may be the most powerful noise in the world. You know those times when someone should say something but decides to leave dead space in the air between you? When a relationship is on the rocks and they should say sorry but are too proud to? You have the choice to speak up for things or keep your peace. Speaking your mind during a debate can make or break an important decision. Especially with politics.
If you don't stand up, then your silence will pass a bill you don't agree with. You only live once why be timid and stay silent. Use your voice. If you don't, no one will know anything about what you're all about!

Music is a good way of taking up silence. A loud song can pump you up and a slow song can calm you down.
Talking fills up dead space and is good for your health:). But talking during class isn't good for your health..

Sometimes silence is a good thing, like when comforting someone. And sleep of course. Silence is important when you need time alone so your thoughts can be gathered.

"Speak now or forever hold your peace"
"His voice rang in my ears even long after he had gone"
